I've loved regency fashion since the 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. I think it is so fun that Bridgerton has re-ignited a love for this fashion, and I'm going to see if I can knit a regency gown today! I'm working with some original gown example that were knit, my own knitting machine and seeing what we can do with it all!

    That's something that can prevent progress for some people -- the "achievable" section of a SMART goal. Achievable is great but it can also be boring. Could you have spent time working through a whole bunch of fibers to eventually spin flax? Sure. But spinning flax is what has you excited! Better to be excited and do something with a steeper learning curve than do something the "right" way and get bored and quit. You'll get better at spinning flax either way. As long as what your doing is working for you, that's what matters.

    I fooled with this a little bit when I was in grades school. I honestly don't remember who introduced me to it but it may have been as part of my Campfire Girls group learning different crafts. Mine was homemade (never heard a name for it) using a used up wooden thread spool with finishing nails hammered into the top. Used variegated crochet thread so the resulting cord was loose and lacy, but I never knew what to do with the results so to see the vintage directions is an eye opener. I still have that first and probably only long cord, in with some odds and ends of jewelry and am racking my brain as to what I used it for - I'm thinking maybe a belt. It was the 60's so a lot of loose dresses that could benefit from a narrow belt tied round. Thanks for this!

    I bought some yarn at a thrift store last year that came with a piece that was partly knitted (part of a sweater I guess). It didn't come with a pattern, and the size was wrong, so I had to frog it. It felt weird to do that - that was someone else's work! But I did let the two colored patterning inspire me to do something similar, and it's finally done! 😁 It's a cropped, tight fitted sweater with leg of motton-sleeves. The first sweater btw that I knitted all in one, so no sewing pieces together afterwards! 👀😁

    I only use toe-socks these days, and I do that because they are sooo comfortable! My toes now have all the room in the world to be where they naturally belong when walking. I know it sounds stupid how something as thin as a sock can be restricktive, but they really do squish your toes together! That said, I can't of cause tell you if that was the reason for their making back in the days! 😁 I would very much like to know too 😀 Maybe it had something to do with whatever footwear they used back then? Perhaps shoes were made with one last only (so left and right shoe were the same). I know that was the case sometime in history, and maybe that wasn't the most comfortable until they were worn in? Idk 🤷

  • @mept9338
    @mept9338 4 дня назад

    Hum about chain, what I have learned is : - simple crochet(us)/double(uk)/maille serrée = 1 chain - half double crochet(us)/half treble(uk)/demi bride = 2 chains - double crochet(us)/treble(uk)/bride = 3 chains - treble crochet(us)/double treble(uk)/double bride = 4 chains And so on. But chains 4 could be for a pattern where we do bride/chain1/bride/chain… Not always so easy to find out, it depends mostly on what is coming next.

    Sometimes it is a stess reliever to do something rather mindless. You coukd do this anywhere, any time. Easy to transport. i have a lucet...which i understand you can make different patterns with..i have not tried THAT but it is fun to use. And OF COURSE you can get fancy, expensive ones of these with handles that crank...it is more like a circular knitting machine. i like the old way BUT IF you are in a hurry or making lots to sell...the crank ones woukld serve a purpose.

    Is the "long treble" what we would call an extended double crochet (EDC) in the US? I know the extended stitches show up a lot in old patterns. That said, this turned out great, so I'm not sure it matters!

    I hope you read this. I have lived my entire adult life with major medical issues. I am not done with them, but i am in a good place in my life, where I can look at someone like you, who says they are "work(ing) on" some things and give maybe a word of encouragement? You have the ability to actually make money at the craft you love. It takes work, for sure, and you work hard, girly, very hard. I want to encourage you to stay strong in being firm in who you are and what you're comfortable doing do no more and no less than you CAN, and be okay with that--that's who's opinion that matters (that being that it's your opinion that matters to you, right?). While you're working on your situation, if I'm not overstepping, I learned for myself not to commit if I wasn't 100% sure I could follow through. Consider that for your situation and whether it could be helpful. Just some thoughts from my perspective. Only take what is helpful, reserve the rest for a later date.😊
